Safety

Taxi and ride safety abroad

A practical routine for official ranks, app bookings, vehicle identity, payments, receipts and incidents.

Traveller checking a pickup booking before entering a taxi
01
Use an official pickup

At airports and stations, follow the signs and ignore anyone offering a ride away from the managed queue.

02
Identify the vehicle

Match the plate, model, local licence and, for an app booking, the driver profile.

03
Confirm the price or meter

Check that the meter starts correctly or that the quote matches the booking. Ask whether tolls and surcharges are included.

Prepare the address, meeting instructions and a way to contact your accommodation. Make these checks before boarding.

04

Protect your information

Do not share a booking PIN until you have identified the correct vehicle. Share only what is needed for the journey.

05

Keep a record

Retain the receipt or booking history. For a dispute, record the time, plate, route and amount.

During the ride

Keep essential belongings with you, confirm the address and follow the route where possible. Share ride details with someone you trust if you wish.

If something goes wrong

Record the plate, time, location and amount, and keep the receipt and booking. Complain to the relevant service; in immediate danger, reach a safe place and contact local emergency services.

What to do when the plan changes

Someone approaches you in arrivals

Do not follow a person who claims to be your driver without matching the booking name, vehicle and pickup instructions. Use the official desk, signed rank or the contact channel in your booking.

The vehicle or price differs

Pause before boarding. Check the registration, driver identity and quoted or metered fare. If the details do not match, return to a staffed area and contact the operator through its official channel.

A dispute starts during the ride

Keep your destination and booking details accessible. Ask for a receipt and record the vehicle number. If you feel unsafe, ask to stop in a public place and contact local emergency services when immediate help is needed.
