The short answer

Changi taxis use arrivals ranks at Terminals 1–4 and the meter. The airport extra applies alongside national night or peak rules. An app booking is a separate offer, compared by its price and meeting point.

Checklist before you ride

  1. Check airport code and terminal
  2. Save address and accommodation entrance
  3. Confirm seats, luggage, fare and payment
  4. Keep meeting point and contact offline

Understand the decision

01

Airport and address

Check SIN, terminal and address with postal code. For a terminal connection, consult airport instructions before ordering external travel. For a hotel, save its vehicle entrance rather than only its trade name.

02

Pickup

Follow taxi signs for the rank. For an app, use the confirmed Arrival and Ride-Hailing point. Changi also has a 24-hour Ground Transport Concierge; specify dedicated car, larger vehicle or help arranging the transfer.

03

Fare and conditions

The airport departure extra is S$8 from 5 pm–11:59 pm and S$6 otherwise. Midnight–5:59 am adds 50% of the metered fare; peak periods add 25% according to Changi’s listed windows. Do not mechanically apply percentages to every extra; request an itemised receipt.

04

Choose the complete journey

MRT journeys require a change at Tanah Merah or Expo depending on route. Bus and MRT generally do not run all night; check the last connection to your destination, not just departure from Changi. For Malaysia, verify a licensed cross-border operator; not every local car can provide it.

Common questions

Can I rely on the MRT after midnight?

Do not assume so. Changi says bus and MRT services generally do not run throughout the night. Check the last connection to your final area and plan a taxi or booked car if needed.

What document should I keep?

Keep the receipt and booking with date, route and vehicle reference. These identify the operator for lost property or a fare question.

How should I compare public transport?

Calculate cost for the whole group, connections and the last leg to your accommodation. Check services at your actual arrival and access with luggage.

Sources and scope

Rules, fares and availability vary by place and can change. These official examples support the method; use the destination page and local authority for the current rule.

Plan and compare your transfer — Compare the group cost using real quotes and ticket prices in the same currency. Then print the checks to complete before departure.
